The Philosophy of Quantum Mechanics: The Interpretations of Quantum Mechanics in Historical Perspective. How needed is a better conceptual foundation for QM ? They are geared towards courses like “introduction to Semiconductor Devices” and “Quantum Mechanics for Engineers”. Einstein and Bohr – No names loom larger in the history of twentieth-century physics, and rightly so, Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr being the figures most prominently associated with the relativity and quantum revolutions.(1) The Conceptual Development of Quantum Mechanics. One of the unique and most innovative aspects of quantum mechanics is the concept that the state of any subatomic particle cannot be known before it is measured. Quantum mechanics predicts that photons, particles of light, are both particles and waves simultaneously. A "particle" or a "wave" are the conceptual framework in which we conform reality, in order to observe it. Part of the middleware was/is developed under an associated National Middleware Initiative (NMI) NSF grant (OCI-0438246) in 2004-2007 and a subsequent Software Development for Cyberinfrastructure (SDCI) NSF grant (OCI-0721680) in 2007-2010. The Statistical Origins of Quantum Mechanics. However, the Hamiltonian and Lagrangian mechanics were the cornerstone of quantum mechanics, as certain concepts developed in their work were heavily used in the formulation of quantum physics. Just like one should start from pseudo-Riemannian geometry in systematically developing General Relativity, one should start from von Neumann's quantum logics in systematically developing Quantum Theory. This is a These constructs that are needed to put all experimental data and observations in a coherent conceptual model that is meant to only explain the known phenomena, but also predict yet unconfirmed ones. Received 26 September 2010; Revised 27 November 2010; Accepted 22 December 2010. I'm thoroughly enjoying relearning the concepts of quantum mechanics in their proper place as part of a developing train of thought. Classes are over for the semester, and I've put together the lecture notes for my undergraduate “Quantum Mechanics for Mathematicians” course, which are available here. Institut für Theoretische Physik, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, 4040 Linz, Austria. The concepts of “NCN supported” and “Community Supported” tools are discussed. Science produces theories that are in a continuous state of change and development.
